18th Century French Toile de Beautiran "le char de l'Aurore"

18th Century French Toile de Beautiran "le char de l'Aurore"

This is a very special piece, one of the most celebrated Toile de Beautiran - inspired by Guido Reni and his work "le char de l'Aurore"

18th Century.

This particular design is one of the most celebrated of the Bordeaux Indiennes manufacturers. Copper plated print on cotton, garance dye for the beautiful red colour of the print.

The motif of Char was inspired by the very famous work by Guido Reni which is in the Palais Pallavicini in Rome. We can recognise the subjects of Greek Gods Apollo & Daphne in the scene.

The lining is a wonderful handspun linen and the back fabric is a chequered garance red and white woven linen.

This piece, in excellent condition is a luxury textile collectors dream but it has been stored very carefully for the over 200 years and is in good enough condition to be used for sewing projects as it is intact and would make an incredible addition to couture projects

I have two different pieces for sale.

This listing is for the section photographed which measures:
